- I am being lead to the opinion by emerging facts, that this SARAH (SALLY) LAWTON - Was in fact the Mother of illigitimate child ELIZA LAWTON who was born in 1825 @ Dobcross

- She is recorded on the Memorial Inscription of Grave: 23 in the Lower Churchyard of St. Chad's Saddleworth Church as: SARAH TAYLOR, sic: " Also of / SARAH TAYLOR / a daughter of the above JOSEPH LAWTON / who died June 4th 1880 aged 77 years / "Her end was Peace". - We have to work bacwards in reverse to follow the facts and details of the unusual life of this Woman - Prior to her Death in 1880, we find Sarah Taylor at No.10 Brighton Place, Chester Road, Barton-upon-Irwell, Stretford, Manchester - Now a Widow aged 65 years living with her Daughter Eliza (Lawton ) Batey, herself a Widow and descibed as a 'Flour Dealer' - Residing with the former is a Sarah L Crowther, an unmarried visitor and property owner aged 52 years (Need to discover more about this Sarah) - The age of Sarah (Sally) Taylor is recorded as 65 years in 1871, whereas she was 77 years af age when she died in June 1880 - which correspondes with her Birth Year of 1803 - Moving backwards to the 1861 England Census - we find Sarah Taylor described as an Unmarried Servant - aged 55 years, living with Joseph & Eliza Batey and Family (Bakers and Flour Dealers) at No.290 Deansgate, Manchester. - ELIZA (LAWTON) BATEY has got to be Sally's illigitimate daughter who was born 1824 at Dobcross - She married Joseph Batey of No.290 Deansgate, Manchester , a Flour Dealer and Baker, on 16th July 1853 at Manchester Cathedral Church.

Wife of Mr. Taylor.

The Reporter - March 9th 1956 - New Zealand bound - Mr and Mrs LAWTON leave for Auckland.

It's goodbye to the cold winds, frost and fog of Lancashire for Mr and Mrs Stanley LAWTON of 18 King's Road, Hurst, who left Ashton on Monday night for the blue skies and warm sun of Auckland, New Zealand.

Mr and Mrs LAWTON lived at No.10 Clarendon Street, Mossley, until a few months ago, when they came to Hurst to stay with Mrs LAWTON's mother, Mrs Bertha CRYER. "I know somebody will miss them," Mrs CRYER told the Reporter this week, "and that's their little dog Sally - a cairn terrier". However, Sally will have no difficulty in finding a home - Mrs CRYER has always befriended her, and has willingly "adopted" the dog.

Educated at All Saints School, Mossley and at Gregg School, Manchester, Mr LAWTON, who is 32, was employed on the staff of Glover Bros (Mossley) Ltd, wire ropes. He served for five years in the Forces during the war.

Mrs. LAWTON formerly Miss Elizabeth Ellen PORTER, was secretary to the sales and service officer of the North Cheshire Group of the Gas Board. She received her education at Mossley Road Council School, Heginbottom Secondary Modern School and Ashton Business Training School.

Both Mr and Mrs LAWTON have been connected with Albion Congregational Church. At Auckland they are to meet a former Denton couple, Mr and Mrs H. NORVELL, who emigrated to New Zealand six years ago.

Mr and Mrs LAWTON have no set plans for their work in New Zealand, but have plenty of faith in the opportunities to be taken out there. Both believe that emigration is playing a vital part in building up Britain's powers overseas. They sailed from Southampton on Tuesday in the liner Southern Cross.
