-Samuel Band was the illigitimate son of George Lawton and Hannah Band, born in 1838 before they were married.
- in the 1841UK Census - this Samuel Lawton is recorded as Samuel Band and is living with Mary Band & Family next door to George & Hannah Lawton at Demense Street, Copley, Stayley. Also living with George & Hannah Lawton is Maria Band aged 13 a daughter of Mary Band. Is it possible that Georges wife Hannah is a daughter or sister of Mary Band.
Cheshire Birth indexes for the years: 1837 to 1839 - BAND Samuel - Born: Stayley -Tameside - 1838-STY/1/28
Hi, Trevor
Samuel was George and Hannah's son, but they weren't married, which is why he is under Band as opposed to Lawton. James is their son, they were married then and Hannah's maiden name is Band. I can't find their marriage on Cheshire BMD but there is a marriage in 1843 of George Lawton to Hannah Beaumont in St Michael's Ashton, both living in Stalybridge, but no address.
Perhaps another piece of the jigsaw?
Kind regards
