LAWTON Mary Annie Oldham 8d 1200- I am seeking any information on a 'Lawton' family that moved accross the pond to Boston and Fall River, Mass.
I have a Hugh Andrew Lawton that sailed from Liverpool on the 2nd April 1896 aboard the 'SS Cepholonia' to Boston. On the ships manifest he listed that he was going to stay with his Brother-in-Law "John Broadbent or Broadhead" at 53 County Street, Fall River, Massachusetts.
Hugh Andrew Lawton was aged 26 at the time and a 'Cotton Cardroom Hand'. The only sister he had that could possibly have migrated to America would be a "Mary Annie Lawton" and I cannot find a marriage for her in the UK, so she may well have married John Broadbent/Broadhead in the US.
It seems quite possible that their father 'JOSIAH LAWTON" (1834) may have joined these children between the years 1880 to 1900 as this Josiah cannot be located in any UK Census between 1871 - 1901.
If anyone out there may have a lead or information on this HUGH ANDREW LAWTON or MARY ANNIE and their father JOSIAH in the 'Fall River' area, I would welcome any reponse that may lead to further research.Census - [date: 1871] [place: Mill Street, Failsworth]
