An Ann Heywood wife of a John Heywood died at Running Hill, Diggle, on 7th November 1774.spouse: Heywood, John (~1715 - 1788)
- At the marriage of Mark Scholefield and Ann Heawood witnesses were: Henry Winterbottom and James Winterbottom - perhaps relatives of the above Ann Winterbottom.
1841 Census - Aged 20 (Woollen Managers Wife) at Mount Pleasant / 01, Friezland, Living next door but one to Josiah Winterbottom & Familyspouse: Buckley, James (~1812 - 1863)
1851 Census - Aged 32 (Woollen Slubbers Wife) at White Lee, Friezland
1861 Census - Age 41 (Weavers Wife) at White Lee, Lane Head, Friezland.
1871 Census - Age 51 (Farmer of 13 acres) at White Lee, Lane Head.
Son of Thomas & Hannhah Winterbottom (Clothier) of Burnedge, Saddleworth. (Samuel was a Widower when he married Betty Schofield at St. Mary's Church Oldham in 1843spouse: Winterbottom, Lucy ? (~1808 - 1842)
Looked at the one you mentioned through the census returns 1841 up to 1871 and believe he died in 1877, there is a burial entry at St Chads 29.9.1877, also one for Betty 9.12.1878. I haven't any other Samuel's baptised at St Chads around that time, so maybe he was baptised elsewhere.
He married Lucy at St Chads 18.2.1833. The entry says -
Samuel Winterbottom bachelor & Lucy Winterbottom spinster - both of Ashcroft.
Lucy looks to be a little older than Samuel and I would think that the son John 13 years on the 1841 census with them was from before the marriage to Samuel. I don't think Samuel would have been old enough to be his father
I have the following from registers of St Chads:
Bapt 20.4.1834 Sarah daughter of Samuel & Lucy of Dobcross - Buried 2/1836 at 3 years
Bapt 21.2.1836 Annise (Annice) dau Sam & Lucy of Dobcorss - Buried 1/1853 at 18 years
Bapt 25.7.1838 twins Henry & Mary of Sam & Lucy - Mary buried 8/1841 at 3 years
Bapt 23.6.1844 Sarah Jane dau Sam & Betty of Brow Dobcross
Burial 16.8.1842 William son Samuel & Lucy of Brow Dobcross - 8 weeks
Burial 11.9.1842 Lucy wife of Samuel - 34 years.
I think that the father of Betty was a Mark Schofield - do you want me to have a look through my Schofield files, or have you established her family - let me know
I have found Lucy on the IGI - bapt 4.7.1803 at Dobcross, daughter John & Sarah (C005862)
Doesn't seem to be much else on there for Samuel apart from the Fernlee reference.
belive he was baptised at Providence Chapel Saddleworth 29.6.1815, the son of Thomas WBott & Hannah nee Platt of Brunedge Lane. Thomas & Hannah married 1800.
What makes me feel more confident is that Thomas was the son of Benjamin WBott and wife ANNISE nee Dronsfield who married in 1772.
Samuel & Lucy called a daughter Annise - quite an unusual name - after Samuel's grandmother perhaps ?????
spouse: Schofield, William (~1814 - 1883)

This 'James Wrigley' recorded in Radcliffe Baptism Registers, son of
Thomas Wrigley & Martha of Diglea, Diggle. Could be same family but needs
verifying.
This James Wrigley is the son of James Heaton Wrigley and wife Mally of Hey Top (Verified in 1851 Census)
In the 1841 Census of Saddleworth, James Heaton Wrigley & wife Mally Wrigley are living at Forty Row, Hey Top / 6, Chew Valley Greenfield. Interesting to note that living next door but one is a John Heaton (50) and Wife Alice (50) and there is another 'Heaton' family at Hey Top / 23 - William (50) & Martha Heaton (50) and family of six children.spouse: Wild, Mary (Mally) Carter - (~1811 - )
- On JOHN WILLIAM WRIGLEY - [1852-1943]spouse: Thorpe, Jane (~1852 - 1937)
1861 - Not found at Hey Top 'FortyRow' in Greenfield.
1881 - Age 30 (Greengrocer) at 199 Ordsall Lane in Salford.
1901 Census - Aged 48 (Farmer) at Tonge Bottom Farm, Hartshead.
We think his father was William Wrigley a 'Carter' - Further research indicates this John William was the son of James & WILD
Children were named in alphabetical order A to G
Mally Wright (Mother) age 70 recorded in 1881 Census, but this could be a
transcription error of 'Wrigley' - If MALLY WRIGHT was John Williams Mother then I have the wrong parents for for John William
John William died at age 14 years. Result of an accident where he was kicked
in the face by a Shire Horse when just 10 years, he sustained horriffic injury
which eventually led to his untimely death at the age of 14 years.
Daughter of Thomas Wrigley of Thurstones, Diggle.spouse: Scholefield, James (~1747 - )
The death of a Margaret Schofield is recorded at Kinders, Greenfield on -
28th May 1799.
St. Chad's Baptism Records show a John Holden or Wrigley, baptised on
02 Oct 1774 - son of John Holden (Mason) of Ward Lane & Margaret Wrigley.
In the 1841 Census the records state that both Alfred and Sarah Ann Wrigley were born in Saddleworth not Marsden as recorded in the 1851 Census
This Seth Wrigley is the son of James Heaton Wrigley and wife Mally of Hey Top (Verified in 1851 Census)spouse: Lees, Hannah (~1845 - )
In the 1841 Census there is a William Wrigley (Gamekeeper) aged 22 years living at Chew Mount, Dovestone Wood, who could well be the fellow in question.spouse: Schofield, Alice (~1817 - )
Seems likely that William & Alice had their early children at Forty Row, Hey Top, Greenfield, then possibly moved location to Roughtown, Mossley or thereabouts, need to verify this in the 1861 Census.
Also it seems that the family moved from Hey Top, Greenfield around 1853 to Mossley, as their son George was born in the Delph District of Saddleworth and so were daughters Caroline & Sarah.
Very confusing issue with the marriage of William Wrigley & Alice. for we have a William Wrigley married Alice Wild at Manchester Cathedral in 1843 and a William Wrigley married Alice Schofield at Rochdale St. Chad's in 1844 - Jerry Schofield aged 70 (Labourer) living with William & Alice at Hey Top in 1851
LAWTON Josiah & YATES Hilda @ Stalybridge, Wesleyan Chapel 1902-AP56/1/15spouse: Lawton, Josiah (1878 - )
