1861 - Spinster, (Cotton Frame Tenter) aged 21 at Uppermill, Saddleworth.
spouse: Broad, Ralph (1790 - 1852)
- It would appear that Sarah (Birchenough) Broad must have died prior to the start of BDM Records in 1837 - As there is no Sarah Broad recorded in the Death Index's prior to the 1841 Census, whereas Ralph is recorded as a widower aged 48 at that time.
- In the 1841 Census at The Common, Sandbach, in close proximity to James Broad is a John Birchenough (45) and wife Sarah (45) with four children - Thomas, (17) William, (14) Emma, (10) and Peter (7) - Most likely relatives of Sarah (Birchenough) Broad.

I have a Joseph Bottomley died at Hull Wood, Castleshaw on 31st Aug 1825 aged 72 years (B:1753) who could be father of Ann.

Cheshire Marriage indexes for the years: 1861 to 1865
BOTTOMLEY Edward - Married - BRADBURY Mary - @ Ashton Civil Marriage - Tameside - 1864-RM/24/58
James Bottomley & Family must have removed from Stayley Bottoms to Brookbottom, Saddleworth between 1832 & 1836 and at the 1841 UK Census they were still at Brookbottom, however James's wife Sarah is recorded as dying at Bottoms, Stayley in 1842 and subsequent Census returns have James Bottomley as living back at Stayley Bottoms with his daughters.spouse: Greaves, Sarah (~1801 - ~1842)
1871 - Widower, aged 73 (Woollen Manufacturer) at Bottoms Fold, Micklehurst. G/sons Charles Lawton (19) & James E Robinson (10) staying at Bottoms in 1871 - James Bottomley and family are living next door but one to widower John Lawton (55) (Farmer of 12 acres) and adult children.
In the 1841 Census at Saddleworth Fold, Uppermill, this James Bottomley is a Woollen Weaver aged 25, living with parents Nathaniel and Mary Bottomley and siblings Ann - aged 27 (Woollen Spinner) and Issac - aged 23 (Woollen Weaver) - The family are living next door to my GGGrandfather James Lawton and his wife Alice, who have two son's at home John Lawton (4) and Alfred Lawton (1) - Living in the same location is GGGGrandfather John Schofield (50) and wife Hannah (50) with children Sarah (20, Mary (20), Joseph (15), Esther (15), Selina (15), and Grand Daughter Esther Ann Lawton (5) - So it seems the Lawton & Schofield Families were well acquainted with the Bottomleys'. - James Bottomley eventually marrying Esther Schofield, the third daughter of John & Hannah Schofield of Saddleworth Fold, in 1854.spouse: Schofield, Esther (1824 - 1887)
The family of Nathaniel Bottomley and Mary Heginbottom are associated with Fern Lea at Friezland, so it may well indicate that their association with John Schofield and Family originated in that area.
Could this be James Bottomley in the 1881 UK Census (Flollow-up) - Marriage - BOTTOMLEY James & SHAW Elizabeth @ Mottram in Longdendale, St. Michael Tameside 1858-CE31/6/38

This John Bottomley is named as one of the executors to the Will of JONATHON LAWTON of Bottoms (Carter & Carrier) who died Nov 1860
A Joseph Bottomley was baptised on the 16th July 1749 at St. Chad's Church, the son of Michael & Ann Bottomley of Doodle Croft, Delph.spouse: Roberts, Martha (1759 - 1830)
1871 - Spinster aged 40
Martha Bottomley daughter of James & Sarah Bottomley of Bottoms, Stayley was probably born at Brookbootm, Saddleworth, but is not as yet listed in the ONS Birth Index: but a BOTTOMLEY Martha - Born: Delph District, Saddleworth - Oldham - 1842-DEL/3/376 seem likely to be her birth registration at Oldham.spouse: Robinson, Joseph Iram (~1837 - )
1841 Census - Baguley Hill, Brookbottom, Mossley.
1881 Census - Age 42 living with sister Maria Bottomley at Bottoms Fold, Stayley, Cheshire.
This is my wife Irene's Great Grandmother - Daughter of James & Sarah Bottomley (Woollen Manufacturer) of Brookbottom, Saddleworth & Bottoms, Micklehurst, Cheshire.- In the 1841 Census Sarah Ann is recorded as 15 years [rounded] and in the 1851 Census Sarah Ann is recorded as being 29 years of age, yet on the Marriage Certificate in 1850 Sarah is recorded as a Spinster, aged 25 years and husband Luke Lawton is recorded as being a Batchelor aged 23 years.spouse: Lawton, Luke (~1821 - 1876)
The couple are to be found at Scout Mill Cottages, Scout, Mossley, Hartshead in 1851. Luke is a Mason's Labourer and Sarah Ann a Cotton Reeler, there are no children from the marriage at the 1851 Census - So all Sarah Ann's children were born between April 1851 and her untimely death before the April 1861 Census; Sarah Ann Lawton Died on the 4th December 1860, aged 39 years, possibly from Childbirth complications from bearing son JOHN LAWTON, . (Verify)
