James Brierley who married Ellen Buckley was the son of John Brierley and Amelia Mills, and I do have a tree that I have produced for this
familly going forward. The tree is about 8 pages long and includes trees for John and Amelia's children as follows:
Jerry and Mary (Rhodes) Brierley
Henry & Caroline Knight (Slater) Brierley
William Morgan & Mary Ann (Buckley) Brierley
James and Ellen (Buckley) Brierley
Isaac and Mary (Lawton) Brierley
Jesse & Eliza (Broadbent ) Brierley
Enoch & Hannah (Kenworthy) Brierley
There is a James Brierley aged 21 (Woollen Slubber) married to Ellen Buckley aged 19 at Dumfies Farm in the 1851 Census (HO/107-2290-270-4-6)

1881 - James aged 47 is a Widower (Grocer) living with brother William Henry and sister Jane Brierley at Ashton Old Road, Fairfield. Closeby is another brother Jonathan Brierley (Grocer) & Family at 17 Field Street, Fairfield. (Now access to Fairfield Square Shopping Center)
The centre of the BRIERLEY Grocery Empire appears to have been Fairfield House which is near The Trough in Audenshaw. (It's now a restaurant). James Brierley lived there at least between 1881 and 1906 and as all the other Brierleys Grocers lived in far more humble dwellings - usually over the shop - it looks like he was the boss. It appears that the grocery business died out early in the twentieth century. One of the Brierley addresses had become a branch of Seymour Mead by about 1910.
Mike Brierley's line comes down from Jonathan's only son James William Brierley, through his son Arthur, and then another Arthur, (Father).
Of Jonathan's other two children, Mary died within a few months and Minnie married and either became Minnie Morris or is connected to a Minnie Morris somehow (Mike Brierley)

The centre of the Grocery Empire appears to have been Fairfield House which is near The Trough in Audenshaw. (It's now a restaurant). James Brierley lived there at least between 1881 and 1906 and as all the other grocer Brierleys lived in far more humble dwellings - usually over the shop - it looks like he was the boss. It appears that the grocery business died out early in the twentieth century. One of the Brierley addresses had become a branch of Seymour Mead by about 1910.
My own line comes down from Jonathan's only son James William, and then his son Arthur, and then another Arthur, my Dad. Of Jonathan's other two children, Mary died within a few months and Minnie married and either became Minnie Morris or is connected to a Minnie Morris somehowNOTES:
Jonathan Brierley - Born: 25th December 1837, "Boothstedge", Delph, Saddleworth - Married: Dovina Lindsay, April 15th 1870, Manchester Cathedral
Died: 19th November 1914, 27 Jackson Street, Gorton
Marriage Certificate shows Jonathan's occupation as Grocer, his Father Joseph's occupation is given as Builder.
Both the couple have their address simply as "Gorton". Their local parish church St. Thomas had recently collapsed in a heap and it's replacement
would not open until 1871. This probably explains why they had to go into town to get married.
NOTE: - 'Joseph Brierley' married Alice Bottomley at St. Chad's on 11th May 1775

- 1841 Census - (ID 16384) - Aged 65 (Woollen Weaver) at Cherry Bottom, Denshaw.spouse: Briarley, Sally (~1768 - 1853)
I obviously have the wrong William Brierley recorded here as in the 1861 Census he is living at 'Culvert' , Waterhead and his mother JANE BRIERLEY (1779) aged 82 is living with family.
NOTES:
The 'Baptism' of William Brierely in 1813 has his mother named as 'Mally' but this could possibly be Sally. (Need to Verify)
Could this be William Brierley (Miner) age 47 at 'Culvert' at Waterhead Mill Bottom in the 1861 Census
Also another William Brierley living at Culvert, Waterhead, Saddleworth, which also could be the William above.

- She is a bit of a Mystery this Ann Broad, as I can only find any reference of her in the 1841 Census at Market Street, Manchester with her sibling sisters. - Cannot locate her in the 1851 Census at all. - And I haven't discovered any Marriages of an ANN BROAD anywhere in Salford ot Manchester between the years 1841 to 1851 - So as she is really insignificant to my family tree I have decided to throw in the towel and discontinue any further research on this individual.
