Looked at the one you mentioned through the census returns 1841 up to 1871 and believe he died in 1877, there is a burial entry at St Chads 29.9.1877, also one for Betty 9.12.1878. I haven't any other Samuel's baptised at St Chads around that time, so maybe he was baptised elsewhere.
He married Lucy at St Chads 18.2.1833. The entry says -
Samuel Winterbottom bachelor & Lucy Winterbottom spinster - both of Ashcroft.
Lucy looks to be a little older than Samuel and I would think that the son John 13 years on the 1841 census with them was from before the marriage to Samuel. I don't think Samuel would have been old enough to be his father
I have the following from registers of St Chads:
Bapt 20.4.1834 Sarah daughter of Samuel & Lucy of Dobcross - Buried 2/1836 at 3 years
Bapt 21.2.1836 Annise (Annice) dau Sam & Lucy of Dobcorss - Buried 1/1853 at 18 years
Bapt 25.7.1838 twins Henry & Mary of Sam & Lucy - Mary buried 8/1841 at 3 years
Bapt 23.6.1844 Sarah Jane dau Sam & Betty of Brow Dobcross
Burial 16.8.1842 William son Samuel & Lucy of Brow Dobcross - 8 weeks
Burial 11.9.1842 Lucy wife of Samuel - 34 years.
I think that the father of Betty was a Mark Schofield - do you want me to have a look through my Schofield files, or have you established her family - let me know
I have found Lucy on the IGI - bapt 4.7.1803 at Dobcross, daughter John & Sarah (C005862)
Doesn't seem to be much else on there for Samuel apart from the Fernlee reference.
belive he was baptised at Providence Chapel Saddleworth 29.6.1815, the son of Thomas WBott & Hannah nee Platt of Brunedge Lane. Thomas & Hannah married 1800.
What makes me feel more confident is that Thomas was the son of Benjamin WBott and wife ANNISE nee Dronsfield who married in 1772.
Samuel & Lucy called a daughter Annise - quite an unusual name - after Samuel's grandmother perhaps ?????Baptism - [date: 09 JUN 1815] [place: Springhead Providence Chapel.]

DEATH OF Mr. JOHN WILLIAM WRIGLEY -
The Mossley & Saddleworth Reporter - December 3rd 1943.
One of Few Hand-Loom Weaver Survivors
One of the few survivors of the old hand-loom waeving days in Mossley, died on Saturday in Mr. John William Wrigley who had attained his 91st Birthday on July 23rd last. Mr. Wrigley a remarkable old gentleman, resided with his son-in-law and daughter, Mr. & Mrs. H Hemingway, at Hawthorn House, Cowlishaw, Shaw, but he was a frequent visitor to Mossley, where he was well known. He leaves two sons - Mr. Eddie Wrigley, Cross Farm, Mossley; and Mr. Gilbert Wrigley, Tonge Bottom Farm, Ashton - and three daughters - Mrs. E. Nield (Preston) , Mrs. Hemingway (Shaw) and Mrs. Moffat.
FROM HAND TO POWER LOOM
Born at Forty Row, Saddleworth, Mr. Wrigley came with his parents to Mossley at the age of six. Working as a hand-loom slubber at Messers Robert Radcliffe & Sons Ltd. and George Lawton & Sons Ltd, Micklehurst, and later becoming a Self-Actor Minder, he cliamed to be one of last few surviving Mossley men who had experienced both the hand and machine processes of Woollen Weaving.
At one time he was a piecer for the late Mr. George Waterhouse, and on leaving the woollen industry, became manager of a Coffee Tavern in Lees Road. In the old days when Mossley's twenty odd mills were busy hives of industry and when the starting hour was 6.00.a.m., coffee taverns were popular intitutions with the mill workers.
Mr. Wrigley afterwards went into business for a short period at Ordsall Lane, Salford, but returned to Mossley, and 62 years ago he entered into the farming business. He had occupied farms at Quick, Cross Farm (which he christened himself and which now is in the occupation of his son Eddie) and Tonge Bottom Farm. He left the latter farm in charge of his son, Gilbert, about 15 years ago and went to live at Luzley Hall.
INTERESTED IN POLITICS
Becoming interested in politics when as a young man he read the speeces of famous Parliamentarians like Gladstone, Bright and Disraeli to his father. Mr. Wrigley actively associated himself with the Liberal Party locally for many years and his judgment on political matters always commanded respect.
Mr. Wrigley was the oldest member of the Central Liberal Club, Mossley, of which he was an ex-president. He was made a life member some years ago. He was a worker for the late Lord Cawley (then Mr. and afterwards Sir Frederick Cawley) during his Liberal representations of the old Prestwich Division. He had also vivid recollection of the election when Sir Frederick ousted the Tory representive Mr. H. G. C. Mowbray.
Mr. Wrigley had nearly a lifetime association with Mossley, only removing to Shaw in the autumn of 1934. His wife died a few years ago after having enjoyed over 60 years of married life. Mr. & Mrs. Wrigley celebrated their Diamond Wedding in March 1935 when they received a congratualtory message from the King & Queen.
The funeral was held at Mossley Cemetery yesterday.

In the 1841 Census there is a William Wrigley (Gamekeeper) aged 22 years living at Chew Mount, Dovestone Wood, who could well be the fellow in question.spouse: Schofield, Alice (~1817 - )
Seems likely that William & Alice had their early children at Forty Row, Hey Top, Greenfield, then possibly moved location to Roughtown, Mossley or thereabouts, need to verify this in the 1861 Census.
Also it seems that the family moved from Hey Top, Greenfield around 1853 to Mossley, as their son George was born in the Delph District of Saddleworth and so were daughters Caroline & Sarah.
Very confusing issue with the marriage of William Wrigley & Alice. for we have a William Wrigley married Alice Wild at Manchester Cathedral in 1843 and a William Wrigley married Alice Schofield at Rochdale St. Chad's in 1844 - Jerry Schofield aged 70 (Labourer) living with William & Alice at Hey Top in 1851Occupation -
