The funeral is on Tuesday 1st of February at 2.00pm at St James and 2.45 at the cemetery where at last she will be reunited with our Dad and her Mum and Dad.

Death Note

Hi Trevor and Irene,
Mum passed away today 20/01/11 at 3.30 am. Both Jean and myself were with her at the end which was quite peaceful. Some sixth sense told us not to go home and we are so glad we didn't. She had looked so comfortable all afternoon and evening then at 3,15 her breathing suddenly became quite erratic with long pauses between breaths and by 3.30 she had passed away. We won't know when the funeral will be until Saturday but we have decided to have a service at St James Church then any member of staff can attend if they want to then she will be buried with our Dad and her Mum and Dad in the family grave in Dukinfield Cemetery just behind the Crematorium. We are having family flowers only and any donations will be given to the local Multiple Sclorosis society.

Abraham Brierley son of Jerry and Mary Buckley married Wright Rhodes' daughter Ann (not Mary as Vera states).

Correct they had no children and they became very wealthy, building a mill and the large house Vera mentions Yes, it was Ann who organised the stained glass window in Kirkheaton Church and also one in Saddleworth Church in memory of her parents. Abraham Brierley is buried at Heights, but Ann is not mentioned on the gravestone so I imagine she was buried at Dogley with her parents. There is a stained glass window still in Heights Church in memory of Jerry Brierley & Mary Buckley erected by their son Abraham Brierley of Lepton. I don't know why it was left in Heights, but I have a photograph of it.

Hannah Brierley ( born in about 1835, daughter of John Brierley and Betty Holden). You pose the question what had happened to her in 1861? Well, in 1861 she was just up the road, at the Barracks, as Hannah Grime, with her husband William (actually his surname was Graham). They had nine children in the area (at the Barracks and at Old Tame). They are both buried in Denshaw churchyard. I was up there in May to bury my mother in the churchyard, and my father and I laid flowers on their graves. There is no headstone there, but my father plans to have one installed later this year!
